Kajang, Malaysia, 27 November 2025 – Following the announcement of the latest Proton Saga assessment result at the opening ceremony of the International Conference on Safety and Holistic Innovation for Future Vehicles (SHIFT 2025) held on 28 October 2025, the New Car Assessment Program for Southeast Asian Countries (ASEAN NCAP) finally released the full report of its assessment result. The new Saga that underwent ASEAN NCAP assessment under the 2021–2025 protocol this year marks the fourth Saga model that ASEAN NCAP has assessed since the vehicle safety program was established in 2011.

The highly anticipated new Proton Saga performed well under the current stringent assessment protocol by claiming a 4-Star ASEAN NCAP rating with an overall score of 66.70 points. The component from the Saga’s assessment score was based on the four assessment categories comprising the Adult Occupant Protection (AOP) category with 29.65 points, the Child Occupant Protection (COP) category with 14.97 points, the Safety Assist (SA) category with 13.33 points and the Motorcyclist Safety (MS) category with 8.75 points.

The new Proton Saga offers standard equipment across all its variants, consisting of two airbags, Electronic Stability Control (ESC), Anti-lock Braking System (ABS), Seatbelt Reminder System (SBR) for both driver and front passenger and ISOFIX for child safety seats. The sedan offers safety assist technologies comprising Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB) City, AEB Inter-Urban, Blind Spot Detection (BSD) for both the driver- and the passenger-side of the vehicle, Auto High Beam (AHB), AEB for Motorcycle, Lane Departure Warning (LDW) and Forward Collision Warning (FCW) as optional equipment.

The Proton Saga stands as a landmark model that has grown in parallel with ASEAN NCAP. Over the years, Proton’s commitment has materialised through significant, steady enhancements to its safety features, demonstrating the brand’s dedication to road safety through the integration of comprehensive passive and active safety features. Under the 2021–2025 protocol, ASEAN NCAP actively encourages manufacturers to equip their vehicles with Advanced Motorcycle Safety Technology designed to mitigate or avoid collisions with motorcyclists. As a key part of this initiative, ASEAN NCAP integrates a bonus point under the MS category in its assessment protocol, rewarding manufacturers who prioritise this life-saving innovation.

Both MIROS and ASEAN NCAP are especially proud to see Proton take a crucial step forward by introducing AEB for Motorcycle in this new Saga model. While this advanced technology is currently available only in the higher variant, its introduction by a leading Malaysian automotive brand is a major benefit for consumers. We strongly encourage this technology to become a more standardised feature, aligning with the core safety stipulations of the ASEAN NCAP protocol. The current ASEAN NCAP 2021–2025 assessment protocol encompasses four assessment domains, with AOP accounting for 40.00 points of the overall score, and COP, SA, and MS each contributing 20.00 points. This year, 2025, marks the final year of the 2021–2025 assessment protocol. Assessment under the 2026–2030 protocol will commence in January 2026.
