Mitsubishi Claims 5-Star for Its Latest SUV


Kajang, Malaysia, 14 November 2025 – This year, the New Car Assessment Program for Southeast Asian Countries (ASEAN NCAP) assessed its third Japanese automobile brand, as the ASEAN NCAP 2021–2025 assessment protocol period nears its conclusion.

In its recent assessment, ASEAN NCAP tested the new Mitsubishi DESTINATOR, the latest SUV model under the brand. The model delivered a remarkable result by earning a 5-Star ASEAN NCAP rating with a total score of 77.27 points. The DESTINATOR’s scores component is based on the four assessment categories, of which the Adult Occupant Protection (AOP) category has 34.69 points. Child Occupant Protection (COP) category with 16.54 points, Safety Assist (SA) category with 15.02 points and the Motorcyclist Safety (MS) category with 11.02 points.

The Mitsubishi DESTINATOR is equipped with standard features of four airbags, Electronic Stability Control (ESC), Anti-lock Braking System (ABS), Seatbelt Reminder System (SBR) for both frontal and rear occupants, Pedestrian Protection (PP) and ISOFIX for child safety seats across all its variants. The SUV also has Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB) Inter-Urban, AEB City, Forward Collision Warning (FCW), Blind Spot Detection (BSD) for both driver- and passenger-side doors, Auto High Beam (AHB) and Lane Departure Warning (LDW), available as standard or optional equipment.

The current ASEAN NCAP 2021–2025 assessment protocol encompasses four assessment domains, with AOP accounting for 40.00 points of the overall score, and COP, SA, and MS each contributing 20.00 points. This year, 2025, marks the final year of the 2021–2025 assessment protocol. Assessment under the 2026–2030 protocol will commence in January 2026.
