Kajang, Malaysia, 12 February 2020<\/em><\/strong> \u2013 The New Car Assessment Programme for Southeast Asian Countries (ASEAN NCAP) kicked-off 2020 by releasing its latest result on the new Isuzu D-MAX. This is the second assessment that ASEAN NCAP performed on the pickup truck with the first done in 2014. In the 2014 ASEAN NCAP assessment, the D-MAX was awarded with 4-Star rating for both Adult Occupant Protection (AOP) and Child Occupant Protection (COP) categories with 11.87 over 16.00 points for the former and 71% compliance for the latter category.<\/p>\n

The new Isuzu D-MAX performed impressively in the current 2017-2020 assessment with a total score of 83.16 points<\/strong> and was awarded with 5-Star<\/strong> ASEAN NCAP rating. The D-MAX\u2019s overall score was based from 42.72 points for AOP category, 21.83 points for COP and 18.61 points for Safety Assist Technologies (SATs)<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Isuzu equipped the new model with two airbags, anti-lock braking system and seatbelt reminder system for both frontal occupants as standard equipment across all its variants. It also offers electronic stability control and blind spot technology on both sides of the truck as optional fitment in all its available market countries across South East Asia.<\/p>\n

MIROS Director-General and ASEAN NCAP Chairperson, Ts. Dr. Siti Zaharah Ishak said:<\/p>\n

\u201cWe had a good start this year with the amazing result from the new Isuzu D-MAX. I would like to wish a heartfelt congratulations to Isuzu for their persistent effort to ensure the model has both passive and active safety technologies that are not only to protect the vehicle occupants but also to avoid collision with motorcycles. We encourage other manufacturers who have not been assessed by ASEAN NCAP to play an active role by elevating the safety performance of your vehicles. Through this concerted effort we\u2019ll be able to halve the number of road fatalities and serious injuries in this region.\u201d<\/p>\n

ASEAN NCAP Secretary-General, Professor (Adjunct) Ir. Dr. Khairil Anwar Abu Kassim said:<\/p>\n

\u201cThe new Isuzu D-MAX is the first pickup truck that ASEAN NCAP tested under the current 2017-2020 protocol. The new pickup truck has several remarkable enhancements in both passive and active safety technologies compared to the previous tested model. We are proud that the first pickup we tested has achieved 5-Star rating and we are also pleased Isuzu has made blind spot technology available in this model as optional fitment so that consumers have the privilege to equip the technology in their purchased truck. We look forward to see more pickups with such safety technologies in the ASEAN region, particularly aligning their safety fitment with ASEAN NCAP requirements.\u201d<\/p>\n
