Kajang, Malaysia, 2 September 2019<\/em><\/strong> \u2013 The New Car Assessment Programme for Southeast Asian Countries (ASEAN NCAP) collaborated again with the Australasian NCAP (ANCAP) to test the latest model that is offered in several South East Asian countries and Australia. The model tested under this collaborative assessment was the new Toyota Majesty or also known as Toyota Granvia in other markets.<\/p>\n

The new luxurious MPV is actually based on the latest generation of Hiace. The Toyota Majesty\/Granvia made an impressive performance in the ASEAN NCAP assessment by achieving a total score of 89.51 points<\/strong>. This score has made it eligible for 5-Star<\/strong> rating. The accumulated scoring was from Adult Occupant Protection (AOP) category at 46.31 points, Child Occupant Protection (COP) at 22.93 points and Safety Assist Technologies (SATs) with 20.27 points<\/strong>. All of the markets that sold the Majesty\/Granvia offers seven airbags in all its variants, with an exception of the Vietnam market that offers the model with three airbags. The MPV is equipped with all the safety assist technologies that are required under ASEAN NCAP assessment but their availability varies according to the countries. The Electronic Stability Control and Anti-lock Braking System come as standard across all its variants while the Blind Spot Technology is offered as standard in Singapore and Thailand. The Seatbelt Reminder System is available in the model across all markets with Singapore and Vietnam offer frontal and rear occupants as a standard fitment. In addition, other technologies namely Autonomous Emergency Braking (City, Inter-Urban and Vulnerable Road Users), Lane Departure Warning and Forward Collision Warning are all available in the market countries of Singapore, Thailand and Myanmar. ISOFIX and Top Tether are available as standard in the MPV.<\/p>\n

MIROS Director-General and ASEAN NCAP Chairperson, Dr. Siti Zaharah Ishak said:<\/p>\n

\u201cCongratulations to Toyota for successfully achieving 5-Star rating for their new MPV. The Toyota Majesty\/Granvia is the third MPV tested under the ASEAN NCAP 2017-2020 assessment protocol after Mitsubishi XPANDER and Wuling Confero. We are proud that this model is the first MPV to achieve 5-Star rating under this protocol. In addition to that, we are pleased that the Majesty\/Granvia has passed all the child restraint system installation assessment for its rear occupant seats. As MPVs will be able to carry more than five occupants, we hope to have more MPV models assessed by ASEAN NCAP. The safety rating will definitely boost confidence to the consumers if they would like to purchase a vehicle to travel with their families.\u201d<\/p>\n

ASEAN NCAP Secretary-General, Professor (Adjunct) Ir. Dr. Khairil Anwar Abu Kassim said:<\/p>\n

\u201cThis was one of the several collaborations that we had done with ANCAP. We are proud with this collaborative assessment as it shows that the manufacturer ensured the model has similar safety level and crashworthiness performance between these two regions. Most importantly, most of the safety assist technologies that we stipulated in our requirements are available either as standard or offered as optional in certain South East Asian markets. We hope more of these technologies are available in other future models.\u201d<\/p>\n
