The event is the third of such course that ASEAN NCAP has been organizing since last November 2018. The earlier two courses were held in Karawang, Indonesia and Hanoi, Vietnam but this is the first time that we organized the course based on the theme of Motorcyclist Safety.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The course held in Bangkok was organized with the support and collaboration of its partners namely The International Sirindhorn Thai-German Graduate School of Engineering (TGGS) of King Mongkut\u2019s University of Technology North Bangkok (KMUTNB), Autoliv, Bridgestone, Continental, Denso, Honda, Koito, Nissan, Toyota, Honda Motor Co., Ltd., Federation of Asia Motorcycle Industries (FAMI), Global NCAP and Sustainable Communications.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The Honourable Mr. Nikorn Chamnong, the Chairman of the People\u2019s Safety Foundation, who has been a strong road safety advocate in Thailand was the guest of honour of the event. We were pleased and honoured when he agreed to open the event.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The course in Bangkok was different from the previous two courses in which the focus was on motorcyclist safety. Therefore, for the first time the course received collaboration from Honda Motor and FAMI who gave an incredible presentation on their research survey on motorcyclist fatalities in Thailand.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The course was divided into two sections, the theory and the demonstration sessions. The demonstration comprised combined brake system (CBS), anti-lock braking system, the effectiveness of blind spot visualization and rear view mirror technology. Mr. Hafiz Johari from ASEAN NCAP took the role of the rider during the motorcycle demonstration with technical support from Assoc. Prof. Dr. Saiprasit Koetniyom and his KMUTNB team. Dr. Saiprasit is the Automotive Safety and Assessment Engineering (ASAE) program coordinator under TGGS and he is also the Technical Committee member for ASEAN NCAP.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The course received close to 100 participants comprising medical officers, research officers, media, academicians, automobile suppliers and many others. In addition to the presentations and demonstrations pertaining to motorcyclist safety, several partners also displayed their products in order to provide better information regarding the actual vehicle safety technologies presented during the course.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">On the same day, the Malaysian Institute of Road Safety Research (MIROS) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with King Mongkut\u2019s University of Technology North Bangkok (KMUTNB). Based on previous successful relationship with the University, MIROS is proud to renew the MoU for the second time in the area of vehicle and road safety. MIROS was represented by its Director-General, Dr. Siti Zaharah Ishak while KMUTNB was represented by its President, Prof. Dr. -Ing. habil. Suchart Sienchin. Also present at the signing and witnessed the momentous occasion were Mr. David Ward, President &amp; CEO, Towards Zero Foundation; Ms. Jessica Truong, Vice President, Programmes of Towards Zero Foundation; Ir. Dr. Khairil Anwar Abu Kassim, Secretary General of ASEAN NCAP and Director, Vehicle Safety and Biomechanics Research Centre, MIROS; Assoc. Prof. Dr. -Ing. Nisai Fuengwarodsakul, Dean of TGGS; Assoc. Prof. Dr. Saiprasit Koetniyom, Coordinator of ASAE; and several KMUTNB\u2019s key academic representatives.
