Eindhoven, The Netherlands, 12 June 2019<\/em><\/strong> \u2013 The Malaysian Institute of Road Safety Research (MIROS) yesterday signed the annual grant agreement with Global New Car Assessment Programme (Global NCAP) for the project of New Car Assessment Program for Southeast Asian Countries (ASEAN NCAP). The signing ceremony was held in Eindhoven, the Netherlands in conjunction with the 26th<\/sup> International Technical Conference on the Enhanced Safety of Vehicles (ESV2019). Mr. David Ward, President and CEO signed on behalf of Global NCAP whilst MIROS was represented by its Director-General, Dr. Siti Zaharah Ishak, who is also the Chairperson of ASEAN NCAP.<\/p>\n

The agreement marks the renewal of annual grant that was awarded to MIROS and ASEAN NCAP to perform assessment on passenger vehicles sold in the ASEAN region. With the grant ASEAN NCAP will be able to purchase the necessary cars for assessment, conduct crash test activities as well as organize forums to promote the initiative and the crash test results in South East Asian countries.<\/p>\n

MIROS Director-General and ASEAN NCAP Chairperson, Dr. Siti Zaharah Ishak said:<\/p>\n

On behalf of MIROS and ASEAN NCAP, I would like to thank Global NCAP for the continuous support towards our work in elevating vehicle safety in South East Asia. The grant and support are definitely the key that will drive us further in halving road fatalities in this region. We look forward to more fruitful cooperation in the coming years.\u201d<\/p>\n

ASEAN NCAP Secretary-General, Ir. Dr. Khairil Anwar Abu Kassim said:<\/p>\n

\u201cWhen we first conducted the crash assessment in 2012, we received the fundamental support from Global NCAP. The first awarded grant had given us the chance to kick-start our work in elevating vehicle safety in ASEAN. Now, eight years later, we are truly grateful that the Global NCAP team has consistently supported us not only in terms of financial support but in all the activities that we organized. The moral support that they have given us is truly remarkable and now we have seen impressive improvements in vehicles sold in the South East Asia market.
