The workshop was held from 18 to 19 September 2017 at the Malaysian Institute of Road Safety Research (MIROS) office and was attended by all parties consisting those from the industry, practitioners, academics and automotive associations.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">During the one and half day workshop, ASEAN NCAP Secretary General, Dr. Khairil Anwar Abu Kassim, highlighted the importance of the future roadmap to everyone. He emphasized that the impending roadmap will be OUR roadmap as all parties will pool together in developing it. In order to realize this OEMs and researchers are encouraged to work with ASEAN NCAP to provide related research on the effectiveness of the technology that will be introduced in the roadmap.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The technology that we will be focusing on in this upcoming roadmap is Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB). More weightage will be given to the said technology hence pushing it for regulatory. This follows the successful implementation of Electronic Stability Control (ESC) in which all new cars in Malaysia are mandated to install ESC by 1<sup>st<\/sup> June 2018.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Motorcyclists accounted for the highest number of fatalities in Malaysia with 63% of the total road deaths in 2015. Such a scenario has compelled ASEAN NCAP to create a new domain to focus on the safety of motorcyclists in the ASEAN region. This is the first domain ever created in the NCAP group and ASEAN NCAP hopes that it will help to reduce the occurrence of collision with motorcycles and also reduce the number deaths among motorcyclists.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The new roadmap is expected to be completed by November 2018 and announced in Jakarta, Indonesia.
