Kajang, 22 August 2017<\/em><\/strong> \u2013 The New Car Assessment Program for Southeast Asian Countries (ASEAN NCAP) recently released its first result under the new protocol for 2017-2020. The first model assessed under the new protocol was Honda CR-V, first launched in Thailand in April this year. Under the new single rating system, the All New Honda CR-V received 5-Star rating with an overall score of 88.8 points.<\/p>\n

The award was presented by the Director General of Malaysian Institute of Road Safety Research (MIROS) and Chairman of ASEAN NCAP, Prof. Dr. Wong Shaw Voon at MIROS office last Thursday. Receiving the plate on behalf of Honda was the Vice President of Honda Malaysia Sdn. Bhd., Mr. Mohamed Akkbar Danial.<\/p>\n

In order to have further understanding of the new rating system, Inspector and Safety Assist Coordinator of ASEAN NCAP, Mr. Mohd Hafzi Md Isa presented the new protocol based on the CR-V\u2019s result as a model. In his presentation, Hafzi highlighted that one of the technologies that ASEAN NCAP will be focusing on in the new protocol is the Blind Spot Technology (BST). The availability of such technology in the new vehicle will be able to help reduce the number of fatalities involving motorcyclists in side collision. Advanced Safety Assist Technologies are also another criteria under the new protocol in which the protocol is aiming for vehicles to avoid a crash from happening or mitigate the injury in the event of a crash.<\/p>\n

Secretary General of ASEAN NCAP, Dr. Khairil Anwar Abu Kassim also presented a comparison of the CR-V\u2019s results by other NCAP programmes with the one tested by ASEAN NCAP under the new protocol. The objective is to show consistent global safety performance comparison of the Honda CR-V across the different regions. Thus, the awarded 5-Star rating shows that Honda truly commits to its global safety approach.<\/p>\n

In conjunction with the inaugural release of ASEAN NCAP result for 2017-2020, ASEAN NCAP has also developed our new website in tandem with the requirements of the protocol. During the event, Prof. Dr. Wong Shaw Voon also launched the newly enhanced website together with the new Honda CR-V result up on the website.<\/p>\n
