Kuala Lumpur, 17 May 2017<\/em><\/strong> \u2013 The 7th<\/sup> ASEAN Automobile Safety Forum (AASF) was successfully organized in Manila, Philippines last Monday. The one-day event was a collaboration between the New Car Assessment Program for Southeast Asian Countries (ASEAN NCAP) and Automobile Association Philippines (AAP). The theme of the forum was \u2018Safer Car Consumerism\u2019 with the objective to intensify awareness of vehicle safety ratings and the need for safer vehicles to the Philippines consumers. Unlike the previous AASFs, this 7th<\/sup> series consists of presentations from organizations and individuals of various backgrounds with the main focus on road safety.<\/p>\n

ASEAN NCAP and AAP had the privilege of receiving attendance from HH Tunku Datuk Mudzaffar Tun Mustapha, Chairman of Automobile Association of Malaysia, who is ASEAN NCAP Steering Committee and also MIROS Board Member to give a welcoming message to the AASF\u2019s delegates. In addition, Ms. Jessica Truong, Programmes Director and Asia Pacific Coordinator of Global NCAP together with Mr. Augustus Ferreria, AAP\u2019s Treasurer and Finance Committee Chair gave welcoming addresses on behalf ASEAN NCAP\u2019s stakeholders.<\/p>\n

The presenters for the forum comprised representatives from the Philippines\u2019s Department of Transportation, Bosch Philippines, Toyota, Philippines\u2019s HRMDDD Highway Patrol Group, Thai-German Graduate School, AutoDeal.com.ph, Hyundai Motor, CarGuide.ph, Consunji & Bonifacio Law Offices, National Center for Transportation Studies, University of the Philippines (UP-NCTS), and Carmudi. The presentations covered from the road safety situation and statistics in the Philippines, initiative by vehicle manufacturers on road safety, safe use of pickup vehicle in Thailand, Philippines legal framework on road safety, and consumers\u2019 decision-making on whether considering safety when purchasing vehicles.<\/p>\n

The highlight of the event was the presentation by Dr. Sihun Lee, Director of Safety Technology Strategy Group, Hyundai Motor Group in which he announced that Kia will also follow Hyundai\u2019s step to commit in producing no zero star cars by following Global NCAP Roadmap for Safer Cars 2020. Ms. Jessica Truong of Global NCAP when asked to comment said, \u201cGlobal NCAP is excited that Hyundai and now Kia are committing to our Roadmap for Safer Cars. We will definitely follow through with both companies to ensure this will materialize.\u201d<\/p>\n
