Manila, 15 May 2017<\/em><\/strong> \u2013 The New Car Assessment Programme for Southeast Asian Countries (ASEAN NCAP) today organizes the 7th<\/sup> ASEAN Automobile Safety Forum (AASF) at Berjaya Makati Hotel. The event is co-organized with the Automobile Association Philippines, an organization involved as ASEAN NCAP Steering Committee member and one of its key partners in vehicle safety.<\/p>\n

The theme for this AASF is \u2018Safer Car Consumerism\u2019 in which ASEAN NCAP and AAP would like to take proactive actions in promoting to the Philippines\u2019 consumers about vehicle safety and how they have the advantage to demand for safer vehicles to be available in the market.<\/p>\n

For this 7th<\/sup> AASF, ASEAN NCAP and AAP are not only engaging vehicle manufacturers and suppliers to give a presentation but also the police, members of the media, academicians, and there is even a presentation from the legal perspective of vehicle safety.<\/p>\n

HH Tunku Datuk Mudzaffar bin Tunku Mustapha, Automobile Association of Malaysia\u2019s Chairman, ASEAN NCAP Steering Committee and MIROS Board member said:<\/p>\n

\u201cThe Malaysian Institute of Road Safety Research (MIROS) as ASEAN Road Safety Centre and ASEAN NCAP are keen in promoting vehicle safety in the ASEAN region. This forum is an innovative avenue to reach out to the road users, vehicle consumers, road safety advocates and many others. With this action, we aspire that together we will be able to meet the target set in the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal that is to halve the number of road deaths and injuries from road traffic accidents by 2020.\u201d<\/p>\n

Mr. Augusto C. Lagman, AAP President said:<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are very happy that ASEAN NCAP is collaborating with AAP to organize the 7th<\/sup> AASF here in Manila. Vehicle safety has been an issue in the Philippines. This is evident from the ASEAN NCAP ratings for vehicles sold for the Philippines market. With concerted efforts and support from the manufacturers, suppliers, media, government and international agencies, and vehicle safety fighters, I believe we can look forward to a great improvement in road safety in the Philippines.\u201d<\/p>\n

ASEAN NCAP<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

ASEAN NCAP is a new addition to the NCAP organizations around the world, which is targeted to enhance safety standards, raise consumer awareness and thus encourage a market for safer vehicles in the Southeast Asia region (ASEAN community). This is a collaborative effort by MIROS and Global NCAP, in which the latter funded the pilot phase of the project. ASEAN NCAP is also supported by the membership of Automobile Associations from Malaysia (AAM), the Philippines (AAP), Singapore (AA Singapore), Cambodia (AAC) and Thailand (RAAT).<\/p>\n

Currently, ASEAN NCAP Steering Committee (SC) is chaired by the Director-General of MIROS\/ASEAN NCAP Chairman, Prof. Dr. Wong Shaw Voon and the Technical Committee (TC) is chaired by the ASEAN NCAP Secretary-General, Dr. Khairil Anwar Abu Kassim.<\/p>\n
