Kajang, 17 November 2015<\/em><\/strong> \u2013 ASEAN NCAP Child Safety Day was held on 11 November 2015 at Autoliv Hirotakao Sdn. Bhd. in Seri Kembangan by the New Car Assessment Program for Southeast Countries (ASEAN NCAP). The Director-General of Malaysian Institute of Road Safety Research (MIROS), Prof. Dr. Wong Shaw Voon gave a welcoming remark to over 100 guests and it was officiated by the YBhg. Tan Sri Datuk Seri Lee Lam Thye, Chairman of MIROS.<\/p>\n

The event saw participation from several companies that distribute child safety seats by showcasing their respective products, participation from the Association of Registered Childcare Providers Malaysia (ARCPM) that promotes child safety in vehicles, and MIROS, a road safety research institute. The event also received guests from consumers associations, related government departments, road safety agencies and vehicle manufacturers in order to shed light on the importance of child safety in cars.<\/p>\n

Among the programs conducted on that day was an introduction to ASEAN NCAP by Mrs. Salina Mustaffa, the concept of child safety in vehicles by Mr. Yahaya Ahmad, and the Japanese Experience on CRS by Mr. Yushihiro Sukegawa of Japan Automobile Research Institute (JARI).<\/p>\n

Apart from the talk and exhibition booths, ASEAN NCAP also organized a demonstration on the installation of Child Restraint System (CRS), UN R44 test set-up viewing, explanation on Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB) by Mr. Mohd Hafzi Md Isa with collaboration from Subaru. Finally the highlight of the event is a demonstration of CRS performance test (UN R44), which was also aired live from Autoliv test lab to the main event area of ASEAN NCAP Child Safety Day.<\/p>\n

During the ceremony, ASEAN NCAP Secretary-General, Mr. Khairil Anwar Abu Kassim announced the crash test result for Ford Ranger. Ford Ranger received 5-Star Adult Occupant Protection (AOP) for variants with 2 airbags, Electronic Stability Control (ESC) and Seatbelt Reminder (SBR) for both frontal occupants. However, due to the pre-requisites by ASEAN NCAP, variants that are not equipped with ESC and SBR are relegated to AOP 4-Star rating. YBhg. Tan Sri Datuk Seri Lee Lam Thye presented the rating plates to Mr. David Westerman, Managing Director of Ford Malaysia and Asia Pacific Emerging Markets, who represented on behalf of Ford.<\/p>\n

With the tagline \u201cOur Child, Our Priority\u201d<\/em>, it is hoped the recently held ASEAN NCAP Child Safety is a starting point for ASEAN NCAP to become a reference point for the public to refer to concerning child safety and child restraint system in vehicles in order to promote the use of CRS for safer mobility of children.
