ASEAN NCAP Releases the Quarter III 2014 Results for Four Models\/Variants and Sharing Further Development in Vehicle Safety for Southeast Asia Region<\/i><\/p>\n

Kuching, 27 August 2014<\/i><\/b> \u2013 The New Car Assessment Program for Southeast Asian Countries (ASEAN NCAP)<\/b> continues its journey in promoting car safety in the transition phase \u2013 from its previous pilot phase (divided into three sub-phases) to a more frequent \u201ctest-and-publish\u201d activities.<\/p>\n

The following are the gist of the latest ASEAN NCAP results (Quarter III 2014 August Release<\/b>):<\/p>\n

Tested Car Models\/Variants<\/i><\/b><\/p>\n

The four cars underwent the latest ASEAN NCAP tests are \u2013 Honda City (2014), Honda Jazz (2014), Tata Vista <\/i><\/b>and Perodua Axia<\/i><\/b>. Result plates for each car are available at the end of this release.<\/p>\n

Result Summary<\/i><\/b><\/p>\n

  1. Tata Vista<\/b> \u2013 3-Star<\/b> in Adult Occupant Protection (AOP); 3-Star<\/b> in Child Occupant Protection (COP).<\/li>\n
  2. Perodua Axia <\/b>\u2013 4-Star<\/b> in Adult Occupant Protection (AOP); 4-Star<\/b> in Child Occupant Protection (COP).<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    Dual-rating:<\/i><\/b><\/p>\n

      \n
    1. Honda City (2014)<\/b> \u2013 5 <\/b>and 4-Star<\/b> in Adult Occupant Protection (AOP); variants without ESC and\/or both front occupants\u2019 SBR are rated 4-Star AOP. 4-Star<\/b> in Child Occupant Protection (COP).<\/li>\n
    2. Honda Jazz (2014) <\/b>\u2013 5 <\/b>and 4-Star<\/b> in Adult Occupant Protection (AOP); variants without ESC and\/or both front occupants\u2019 SBR are rated 4-Star AOP. 4-Star<\/b> in Child Occupant Protection (COP).<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

      Both Honda City and Honda Jazz are widely available in the region with various manufacturing origin. However, Tata Vista and Perodua Axia are limited to less than two countries. Tata Vista is produced in India and only available in Indonesia and Myanmar, while Perodua Axia is set to be launched in September 2014 for Malaysia market only.<\/p>\n

      Tested variant country of origin: Both Honda Jazz and City (Thailand for Thailand market), Tata Vista (India for Indonesia market) and Perodua Axia (Malaysia for Malaysia market). This is the first time a car of Indian manufacturing origin underwent ASEAN NCAP assessment.<\/p>\n

      In the Adult Occupant Protection (AOP), Honda City had broken the record high in ASEAN NCAP test by far with 15.80 point, which previously held by Ford Fiesta with 15.73.<\/p>\n

      Perodua Axia is the first car in ASEAN NCAP history to be launched into the market with ASEAN NCAP results. It will be the most affordable 4-star car (in both AOP & COP) in the ASEAN region (though only available in Malaysia), with the price tag of MYR 24,900 (~ USD 8,000).<\/p>\n

      ASEAN NCAP is expecting more affordable cars in the future with commendable safety specification and crash test performance. Also, at the same time ASEAN NCAP is putting the challenge to car manufacturers to offer 5-Star car at an affordable price.<\/p>\n

      ASEAN NCAP regarded this achievement as a proof that this consumer-based program has been an effective enabler for safety culture in the ASEAN region. It also may tear down the perception among the public that \u201csafety\u201d is equal to \u201cexpensive\u201d products.<\/p>\n
