Summary:<\/p>\n

The present report, prepared by the World Health Organization in cooperation
\nwith the United Nations regional commissions and in consultation with other
\npartners of the United Nations Road Safety Collaboration, provides an update of the
\nstatus of the implementation of the recommendations contained in General Assembly
\nresolutions 58\/289, 60\/5, 62\/244, 64\/255 and 66\/260 on improving global road
\nsafety. The report describes activities and achievements by the global road safety
\ncommunity in pursuance of the objectives of the Decade of Action for Road Safety
\n(2011-2020) since the previous report of the Secretary-General (66\/389). Several
\nhigh-profile events during this period attest to the recognition of the problem around
\nthe world and the solutions that Governments and other stakeholders need to
\nimplement in order to reduce road traffic crashes and their consequences on public
\nhealth and development. These events, all of which drew attention to road safety
\nfrom the highest political levels, included the World Day of Remembrance for Road
\nTraffic Victims in November 2012, the launch of the Global Status Report on Road
\nSafety 2013: Supporting a Decade of Action in March 2013, the second United
\nNations Global Road Safety Week held from 6 to 12 May 2013 and the launch of the
\nGlobal Alliance for Care of the Injured in May 2013. The report concludes with a
\nnumber of recommendations for consideration by the Assembly for achieving the
