\nThe New Car Assessment Program for Southeast Asian Countries (ASEAN NCAP) continues its mission to elevate safety level of cars in ASEAN. The following are important notes on ASEAN NCAP current activities:
\nPhase III of ASEAN NCAP<\/strong>
\nThe pilot project of ASEAN NCAP will be completed as the third phase is expected to finish in March 2014. The Secretary-General of ASEAN NCAP, Mr. Khairil Anwar Abu Kassim has mentioned his gratitude to those who support the program from the very beginning (MyVAP phase) until the end of ASEAN NCAP pilot phase. \u201cWe are closely following our own roadmap and targets set by the Steering Committee so far, and we try our very best to break into all dimensions that users are expected as well as to create a fair situation among OEMs,\u201d he said. This include the testing of pickups, left-hand drive (LHD) car for the first time, and testing cars from various origins (OEMs from India, China and France in Phase III). He also added that testing for this phase will also be carried out in Japan (at JARI with collaboration of Australasian NCAP) and Korea (testing for the first time in KATRI with collaboration of Korea NCAP). \u201cWe have 11 models, with 2 models in both lowest and premium version. So, we are expecting 13 results at the end of Phase III.\u201d
\nLaunching of Phase III Results<\/strong>
\nOn another note, ASEAN NCAP Secretariat would like to apologize for suspending the official announcement of the next Open Day and Phase III result release, which to be held in Bangkok in March 2014. Final decision will be made by middle of February, after the final judgment by ASEAN NCAP Secretariat and its Thailand partners. ASEAN NCAP Secretary-General, Mr. Khairil Anwar Abu Kassim said the event will be back to Malaysia in its \u201cPlan B\u201d and will be delayed in about a month or two. \u201cWe highly respect the spirit of our Thailand partners and our recent meeting in Bangkok (6th OEM Meeting) is a great sign that ASEAN\u00a0NCAP will be well-received in Thailand. But at the same time, we do care about safety and mobility due to the current political situation in Bangkok, and Thailand as a whole\u201d.<\/p>\n

Visit by Global NCAP Technical Director<\/strong>
\nASEAN NCAP was proud to be visited by Mr. Alejandro Furas (Alex), the Global NCAP\u2019s Technical Director and CEO (designate) of Latin NCAP (NCAP for South America). His two-day visit (27-28 January 2014) was mostly spent in MIROS PC3 Crash Laboratory in Melaka for a more technical discussion including \u201caligning\u201d the interpretation of crash test protocols, \u201clive inspection\u201d for two cars by crash test inspectors from both ASEAN NCAP and Latin NCAP, and drafting the \u201cEmerging Market Roadmap\u201d for 2017.<\/p>\n![\"????????\"](\"\/v2http:\/\/www.aseancap.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/02\/DSC02827-300x192.jpg\")
