Launching of Child Car Seat Campaign


Putrajaya – The Road Transport Department (RTD) recently launched a campaign to promote the use of child car seat. The campaign is an advocacy programme for RTD to encourage the use of child car seat before making it mandatory supposedly in 2017. The Deputy Transport Minister, Datuk Aziz Kaprawi said the government wants to educate the public to use child restraining system or shortly known as CRS, in order to reduce fatalities involving children.

“According to 2013 statistics, 53 accidents were recorded involving children, with 13 died during that year,” said Aziz after launching the child car seat campaign at the Transport Ministry. He said local car models produced in 2015 such as Proton Prevé, Suprima S, Iriz and Perodua Axia are all equipped with ISOFIX and top tether. “They would fit well into the child car seat that incorporates such safety features,” said Aziz.

Miros Crash Specialist, Yahaya Ahmad was also at the launch to brief on the types of child car seat. “Child car seats in the market should meet the UN R-44 specifications since it complies with the United Nations standard regulation,” said Yahaya. He also added that it is important to buy child car seat according to the weight of the child, as it will provide better protection based on the child’s size.
