Chery OMODA 5 Scored 5-Star Rating in Its First ASEAN NCAP Assessment


Kajang, Malaysia, 9 August 2024 – The automotive brand name Chery reentered the ASEAN market in recent years in which it launched its first model, Chery OMODA 5, in Indonesia and Malaysia in 2023. The Chery OMODA 5 is the first model under the Chery brand to be assessed by the New Car Assessment Program for Southeast Asian Countries (ASEAN NCAP). The OMODA 5 made a vehicle safety commitment in the assessment with an accumulated score of 88.64 points and successfully obtained 5-Star ASEAN NCAP rating. The score was totaled from the four assessment categories that ASEAN NCAP has defined under its 2021–2025 protocol which are Adult Occupant Protection (AOP) with a score of 36.77 points, Child Occupant Protection (COP) with 17.36 points, Safety Assist (SA) assessment by achieving 19.51 points and Motorcyclist Safety (MS) category with 15.00 points.

The petrol-fueled SUV made a strong commitment in vehicle safety by offering a range of vehicle safety features as standard fitment across all its variants consisting of six (6) airbags, Anti-lock Braking System, Electronic Stability Control (ESC), Seatbelt Reminder System for frontal and rear seats occupants, standard fitment of rear seats occupant detection, Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB) City, AEB Inter-Urban, Blind Spot Detection (BSD) for both the driver and front passenger sides of the vehicle, Auto High Beam (AHB) and Pedestrian Protection (PP) technology. In addition, there are several advanced safety assist features that are available in the OMODA 5 either as standard or optional fitment. These features comprise Lane Departure Warning (LDW) system, Forward Collision Warning (FCW) and Lane Keep Assist (LKA). ASEAN NCAP is pleased that one of Chery’s SUV models, the OMODA 5, has underwent ASEAN NCAP assessment. This is to ensure the safety specifications offered for the said model sold in this region meet the requirements that ASEAN NCAP has set. The current ASEAN NCAP 2021–2025 assessment protocol encompasses four assessment domains, with AOP covering 40.00 points of the overall score, and COP, SA, and MS each contributing 20.00 points of the overall score.
