Kajang, Malaysia, 15 August 2024 – The New Car Assessment Program for Southeast Asian Countries (ASEAN NCAP) performed another assessment on a model that was recently launched in this region in the beginning of this year. The GAC EMZOOM is the first model under the brand GAC Motors to be tested by ASEAN NCAP under the 2021–2025 assessment protocol. The hatchback performed well in the assessment and successfully obtained a 5-Star rating with an accumulated score of 88.39 points. The overall score was based on the current ASEAN NCAP protocol which consists of four assessment categories that are Adult Occupant Protection (AOP) category in which the EMZOOM received 36.60 points, Child Occupant Protection (COP) at 16.43 points, Safety Assist (SA) assessment category with 17.86 points and it attained 17.50 points under the Motorcyclist Safety (MS) category.
The GAC EMZOOM is equipped with a standard fitment in all its variants that consist of six (6) airbags, Anti-lock Braking System, Electronic Stability Control (ESC), Seatbelt Reminder System for frontal seats occupants, Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB) City, AEB Inter-Urban, AEB Pedestrian, Blind Spot Visualization (BSV) for both the driver and passenger sides of the vehicle, Auto High Beam (AHB) and Pedestrian Protection (PP) technology. Furthermore, the 5-seater hatchback, currently available only in Malaysia, also offers other advanced safety assist technologies as standard equipment comprising AEB for Motorcycle, Lane Departure Warning, Forward Collision Warning (FCW) and Lane Keep Assist (LKA). The Seatbelt Reminder System for rear passenger seats are available as optional fitment. ASEAN NCAP is proud that the GAC made the leap of having its latest model, the GAC EMZOOM, to undergo the ASEAN NCAP 2021–2025 assessment. True to its commitment to safety, the GAC EMZOOM has ensured a well-deserved safety performance from both its passive and active safety features offered in the model. Two of its safety features that will benefit motorcyclists are the BSV, which are equipped as standard on both the driver and passenger sides as well as the AEB for Motorcycle offered as standard fitment for all its variants. The technologies will indeed assist drivers in avoiding collisions with motorcycles either on the side or frontal part of the vehicle. Thus, ASEAN NCAP extends our congratulations to GAC EMZOOM for its safety commitment by equipping the safety assist technologies as standard and achieving a 5-Star rating in its first assessment. The current ASEAN NCAP 2021–2025 assessment protocol encompasses four assessment domains, with AOP covering 40.00 points of the overall score, and COP, SA, and MS each contributing 20.00 points of the overall score.
