The New Mitsubishi Triton Scored 5-Star in ASEAN NCAP 2021-2025 Assessment


Kajang, Malaysia, 1 December 2023 – As we neared the end of 2023, the New Car Assessment Program for Southeast Asian Countries or ASEAN NCAP conducted its first test on a pickup truck under the 2021-2025 assessment protocol. The test was performed on Mitsubishi’s latest launched pickup truck, the new Mitsubishi Triton.

The new Mitsubishi Triton made a remarkable performance in this latest assessment with a total score of 74.71 points and was awarded with 5-Star ASEAN NCAP rating. The achieved overall points were from the four assessment categories that make up the 2021-2025 assessment protocol that are AOP assessment category with the score of 32.52 points, 17.54 points for COP category, 14.44 points for Safety Assist (SA) and 10.22 points for Motorcyclist Safety (MS) assessment.

The new pickup offers standard safety features for all its variants comprising three (3) airbags, Anti-lock Braking System (ABS), Electronic Stability Control (ESC), Seat Belt Reminder System (SBR) for both driver and front passengers and Pedestrian Protection technology. The new Triton also has several safety assist technologies that are available either as standard or optional fitment. The available technologies are Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB) City, AEB Inter-Urban, AEB Pedestrian, Lane Departure Warning, Forward Collision Warning, Blind Spot Detection (BSD) for both driver and passenger sides of the vehicle and Auto High Beam (AHB). Additionally, the Triton is also equipped with seven (7) airbags and SBR for rear seats occupants as standard or optional fitment. Apart from the frontal offset and side impact crash tests that ASEAN NCAP conducted to assess the safety level of the new Triton to protect its occupants, ASEAN NCAP also performed physical assessment on the effectiveness of the AEB and BSD technologies that are equipped in the pickup truck to avoid collisions with other road users. In the assessments, ASEAN NCAP confirms that the technologies functions according to the ASEAN NCAP requirements.

With Mitsubishi offering the abovementioned safety features, ASEAN NCAP believes that Mitsubishi places a high value on the importance on the safety of its occupants and other road users including motorcyclists. ASEAN NCAP is extremely happy that Mitsubishi has taken such actions in ensuring that all road users will benefit from this.

The current ASEAN NCAP 2021-2025 assessment protocol encompasses four assessment domains, with AOP covering 40.00 points of the overall score, and COP, SA, and MS each contributing 20.00 points of the overall score.
