Kajang, Malaysia, 7 May 2023 – The New Car Assessment Program for Southeast Asian Countries (ASEAN NCAP) had conducted an assessment on the latest X-series model produced by PROTON. The PROTON X90 is the latest line-ups that ASEAN NCAP assessed this year with an amazing achievement by obtaining a total score of 83.75 points in the assessment. This score has earned the 7-seater SUV with 5-Star ASEAN NCAP rating. The total score was based on the cumulative points of the four assessment categories under the ASEAN NCAP 2021-2025 assessment protocol which comprises 37.75 points for Adult Occupant Protection (AOP), 17.79 points for Child Occupant Protection (COP), 15.71 points for Safety Assist (SA) category and Motorcyclist Safety (MS) with 12.50 points.
The PROTON X90 comes with a number of standard equipment across all its variants namely 6 airbags, Electronic Stability Control (ESC), Anti-lock Braking System (ABS), Seatbelt Reminder System (SBR) for both frontal and rear seats occupant, Blind Spot Detection (BSD) for both sides of the vehicle, Child Presence Detection (CPD) and Pedestrian Protection technology. The model also offers several advanced safety assist technologies as optional fitment amongst its variants consisting of Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB) City, AEB Inter-Urban, AEB Pedestrian, Lane Keep Assist (LKA), Forward Collision Warning (FCW), Lane Departure Warning (LDW), Rear Cross Traffic Alert (RCTA), Emergency Lane Keep Assist (ELKA), Traffic Sign Information (TSI) and Rear Collision Warning (RCW).
The PROTON X90 is the tenth model under the PROTON brand that was assessed by ASEAN NCAP. The SUV has made an exceptional performance in this assessment in which it not only offers better protection for its occupants, but also ensures the safety of other road users by offering a number of key safety technologies that are able to prevent the risk of road crashes from occurring. ASEAN NCAP extends our congratulations to the PROTON team for successfully achieving 5-Star rating for their new SUV model in their X-series line-up. With the previous PROTON’s SUVs had received 5-Star rating, the new X90 that was assessed under the more stringent ASEAN NCAP 2021-2025 protocol has indeed proven PROTON’s commitment to safety.
In addition to several new safety assist technologies which added value to the model, ASEAN NCAP is pleased that PROTON has made technologies such as BSD and CPD as standard equipment in all its variants. Incidences of crashing against motorcyclist during lane changing manoeuvre and children accidentally left inside a vehicle are some of the road safety concerns that can be avoided. Hence, ASEAN NCAP is glad that these two technologies are among the targeted ones that PROTON focuses on as standard fitment for their model in order to overcome fatality risk among these two vulnerable road users.
The current ASEAN NCAP 2021-2025 assessment protocol covers four assessment domains with AOP covers 40.00 points of the overall score, and COP, SA and MS make up 20.00 points each of the overall score.
