Perodua Axia 2023 Model Underwent Second Round of ASEAN NCAP Assessment


Kajang, Malaysia, 14 February 2023 – The New Car Assessment Program for Southeast Asian Countries (ASEAN NCAP) assessed another of the Perodua model for the third consecutive year under the current ASEAN NCAP 2021-2025 assessment protocol.

The Axia was first assessed by ASEAN NCAP in 2014 with 4-Star ratings for both its Adult Occupant Protection (AOP) and Child Occupant Protection (COP) categories assessment. The 2014 Axia scored 12.91 / 16.00 points for the AOP assessment and achieved 71% compliance for the COP.

Under the current ASEAN NCAP 2021-2025 assessment protocol, vehicles are assessed based on four categories comprising AOP with the full score of 40 points whilst the COP category, Safety Assist (SA) and Motorcyclist Safety (MS) have 20 points as the full score for each of the category.

The new hatchback had performed exceptionally well under the current stringent assessment protocol by successfully obtained a 4-Star ASEAN NCAP rating with an overall score of 73.55 points. From this score, ASEAN NCAP is pleased that the new Perodua Axia had achieved the maximum 5-Star rating for the three of the assessed categories namely AOP with 32.06 points, COP with 17.03 points and SA with 15.71 points. The new Axia achieved a maximum of 4-Star rating with the score of 8.75 points for the MS category.  

The Perodua Axia model for 2023 has 2 airbags as standard fitment across all its variants while a 6-airbag fitment is available in its highest variant. The hatchback is fitted with standard equipment of Electronic Stability Control (ESC), Anti-lock Braking System (ABS), Seatbelt Reminder System (SBR) for both frontal and rear occupants and Pedestrian Protection technology in all its variants. The Axia also offers various safety assist technologies as optional fitment in all its variants namely Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB) City, AEB Inter-Urban, AEB Pedestrian, Lane Departure Warning (LDW), Forward Collision Warning (FCW), Rear Cross Traffic Alert (RCTA), Blind Spot Detection (BSD) for both sides of the vehicle and Auto High Beam (AHB).

The Perodua Axia has been a popular model among the Malaysians due to its affordable price. When the model was first launched in 2014, it made a significant milestone by achieving 4-Star ASEAN NCAP rating for both its AOP and COP categories. The hatchback made a mark where it proved to the public that safety is not a luxury. Through the 2014 ASEAN NCAP assessment, the model showed that despite having good crashworthiness occupant protection and it was fitted with 2 airbags as standard, there had been no change in price in comparison to its earlier predecessor, the Perodua Viva. This was indeed a proud milestone for vehicle safety advocates as Perodua had proven that we do not have to place a high price for demanding safety in the vehicles that we are purchasing. Everybody has the right to be safe on the road.   

ASEAN NCAP is proud that the Malaysia’s local brand car has continued to strive towards the best for its latest model by successfully achieving a 4-Star rating under the current 2021-2025 protocol. With its highest requirements of not only providing protection to its occupants, the protocol also emphasizes safety is provided to other road users. The current ASEAN NCAP 2021-2025 assessment protocol covers four assessment domains with AOP covers 40.00 points of the overall score, and COP, SA and MS make up 20.00 points each of the overall score.

The brief result of the new Perodua Axia (2023) is as follows.
>>The new Perodua Axia made a remarkable performance under the 2021-2025 assessment protocol with an accumulated score of 73.55 points. The total score was made up from the four assessment categories with the hatchback obtaining 32.06 points for AOP, 17.03 points for COP category, 15.71 points for SA and 8.75 points for MS. The new hatchback for successfully obtaining 5-Star ratings for three of ASEAN NCAP assessed categories namely AOP, COP and SA. As for the MS category, the Axia obtained 4-Star rating. These scores have made the Axia to receive 4-Star ASEAN NCAP rating.
