ASEAN NCAP Assessed VinFast Electric Vehicle

Kajang, Malaysia, 8 November 2022 – The New Car Assessment Program for Southeast Asian Countries (ASEAN NCAP) released its latest assessment result on VF e34, one of VinFast’s electric SUV model currently sold in Vietnam’s market. This would be ASEAN NCAP’s fourth assessment on the VinFast brand and the first under the 2021–2025 assessment protocol.

The 5-seater electric SUV made an impressive performance in the assessment in which it successfully achieved 4-Star ASEAN NCAP rating. Although achieving a 4-Star rating in the assessment with an accumulated score of 78.99 points, ASEAN NCAP is proud that the assessed VF e34 had achieved maximum 5-Star rating for each of the three assessed categories: Adult Occupant Protection (AOP – 35.92 points), Child Occupant Protection (COP – 17.71 points) and Motorcyclist Safety (MS – 12.50 points). For the assessed Safety Assist (SA) category, the SUV obtained maximum 4-Star rating with 12.86 points.

The left-hand drive e-SUV model offers one variant to the Vietnam market in which it is equipped with standard 6 airbags, Seatbelt Reminder System (SBR) for frontal and rear occupants, Electronic Stability Control (ESC), and Anti-lock Braking System (ABS). Other advanced safety assist technologies that are available as standard features are e-Call technology, Lane Departure Warning (LDW) and Rear Cross Traffic Alert (RCTA). Additional standard safety technologies offered by VF e34 that were assessed under the Motorcyclist Safety category comprising the Blind Spot Detection (BSD) fitted at both the driver and passenger sides of the vehicle. It also has Auto High Beam (AHB) that will be able to detect oncoming or preceding vehicles or road users during night driving through automatic switch between high and low beam.

ASEAN NCAP congratulates VinFast for installing BSD and e-Call technology as standard equipment inside the model. As Vietnam is one of the countries in ASEAN region with the highest number of registered motorcycles on the road, having BSD fitted on both sides of the vehicle will be able to assist the driver to avoid collision with motorcyclists on the road especially during lane changing manoeuvres. Furthermore, the installation of e-Call is surely an added plus to vehicle owners as it is able to engage in emergency calls to first responder in the event a crash occurred.

The current ASEAN NCAP 2021-2025 assessment protocol covers four assessment domains with AOP covers 40.00 points of the overall score, and COP, SA and MS make up 20.00 points each of the overall score.

The result for VF e34 is as follows.
