ASEAN NCAP First Manufacturer Briefing for Q1 2017


Kajang, 1 April 2017 – The New Car Assessment Programme for Southeast Asian Countries (ASEAN NCAP) yesterday held its first briefing with the car manufacturers at the Malaysian Institute of Road Safety Research (MIROS) office. Some of the manufacturers who attended were Honda, Toyota, General Motors, Proton, Perodua, Mazda, Hyundai, Volkswagen and many others.

In the morning, ASEAN NCAP also called for a discussion from the manufacturers on the installation assessment of child occupant protection (COP). Apart from discussion, it also covered hands-on session of COP installation assessment based on the new ASEAN NCAP protocol and the newly developed checklist.

Friday’s briefing focused on the simulation of ASEAN NCAP new rating plate, updates on the COP and safety assist technology assessment—particularly blind spot monitoring system, and overall assessment of the new rating system for 2017–2020. There were also updates of ASEAN NCAP upcoming events as well as those of its associated ones in 2017. The briefing ended with the announcement to begin the development of ASEAN NCAP road map for 2021–2025.
