Announcement of ASEAN NCAP Safety Assist Workshop, 31 March-1 April 2016

Kajang, 26 February 2016 – ASEAN NCAP Rating Roadmap 2017-2020 was announced at the ASEAN Automobile Safety Forum (AASF) 2015/003 held in Bandung, Indonesia from 20th to 22nd September 2015. The new rating aims to encourage more cars with best safety practices in the region. It consists of three domains; Adult Occupant Protection (AOP), Child Occupant Protection (COP) and Safety Assist (SA).

For SA, it contributes 25% of the overall rating with a maximum of 18 points focusing on three aspects; Effective Braking and Avoidance (EBA), Seatbelt Reminder (SBR), Blind Spot Technology (BST) and advanced Safety Assist Technology (SAT). This differs significantly from existing requirement (2012-2016) in which only Electronic Stability Control (ESC) and SBR systems are considered as pre-requisite for 5-star AOP rating.

Thus, ASEAN NCAP plans to hold a workshop on Safety Assist which will be held from 31st March to 1st April 2016 at two separate locations; Pulai Springs Resort and Padang Kawad, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia at Johor Bahru. This workshop aims to:

> acquire valuable feedback from related stakeholders especially car manufacturers on ASEAN NCAP’s requirement for 2017-2020 Safety Assist;

> provide training to related stakeholders especially cars manufacturers on the technical requirements of SA specifically on Fitment Rating System (FRS);

> demonstrate the functionalities and potential test protocols of certain SATs; and

> release the pre-final ASEAN NCAP Protocol (2017-2020) for AOP, COP and SA.

The tentative schedule for the Safety Assist Workshop is available here.
