Child Restraint System Installation Assessment

Child safety seats or popularly referred to as child restraint system (CRS) are seats designed to provide protection to infants and children from injury or death in vehicle collisions. In many countries, car seats are legally required. The Malaysian government has also recently begun a campaign to use child car seats because of its many benefits to children in passenger vehicles.

ASEAN NCAP, an organization targeting to encourage a market for safer vehicles in the region, has also developed a child occupant protection rating scheme for its crash tests. CRS instalment is one of the rating categories for vehicle manufacturers to adhere because of its significant role in safety. According to Mr. Yahaya Ahmad, of CRS Working Group, a tentative reference list for CRS instalment assessment for 2017 child occupant performance rating has been shortlisted based on the survey of ASEAN market availability. The list subsquently was also cross referred with Euro NCAP’s list. Final list will be released at the ASEAN Automobile Safety Forum 2015/003 that will be held in Bandung, Indonesia this September.
